PLEASE TAKE NOTE !!
The result of numerous discussions, motions and respective voting, the Grand Council for the Southern Band Tuscarora Indian Tribe issues the following statement, and warning........
The Southern Band Tuscarora Indian Tribe returned to Traditional Government on June 13, 2005, abolishing the Head Sachem position, returning the decision making for the well being of the Tribe to the Grand Council, all clans being represented and with a voice. As of this date, the former Head Sachem, but still Mud Turtle Clan Chief, Edward Livingston no longer had authority to speak or enter into agreements autonomously on behalf of the Southern Band Tuscarora Indian Tribe.
After many requests to Mud Turtle Clan Chief Edward Livingston to cease activities that were detrimental to the well being of the Southern Band Tuscarora Indian Tribe, and of an autonomous nature, the Grand Council voted unanimously, October 1, 2005, to remove Mr. Livingston from the Tribal rolls. All options were discussed, in hopes that this step would not need to be taken, but it came down to this being the only viable option for the well being of the Tribe as a whole.
With this is mind, The Grand Council advises that former Mud Turtle Clan Chief and member, Edward Livingston, has no authority to act in behalf of, speak for, or enter into any agreements that are for the Southern Band Tuscarora Indian Tribe. Anything of this nature entered into from October 1, 2005 will not be valid or binding. If any entity has entered into any agreements from that date, please contact the Office for the Southern Band Tuscarora Indian Tribe for the procedure to submit the proposal for Grand Council consideration and final decision. We regret any inconvenience this may cause, but it is the way things must be done.
